this must has been done like 7000 times already but i dont care
Fine, here’s a one sentence version:
If John was as tall as Sherlock, their dynamic wouldn’t be as interesting or complex to me. (i’m talking all Johnlock all the time here)
Long Version: (seriously, don’t read this. this was to get out of doing Stat homework so you can’t even complain how bad it is)
Height is one of those fun things in romance because it can be an easy and totally superficial and stereotypical way to tell who’s the more dominant in the couple. I’m guessing this came around because guys are usually taller than their female lovers, and that guys were the dominant ones until feminism kicked their ass.
^Guess who’s the dominant one here?^
But with the wonderfulness of gay relationships, that physical difference caused by gender isn’t there anymore. Still, I know people who only want someone taller/shorter than them, probably to uphold this tradition of taller = dominant. And in movies, it’s a nice visual aid!
^Lesbians have height differences too!!^
^Blaine: “I’m so happy I’m the taller and dominant one in this relationship!!”^
It can all get a little predicable.
But then there’s wonderful Johnlock.
Look at that wonderful height difference. LOOK AT IT. (I’m not the only one obsessed with height differences, I swear to god….) This seems to fit right into the pattern, as Sherlock is pretty dominant with his “you must follow me anywhere everywhere hey please go drink this probable hallucinogen for me kthx.”
But then there’s the fact that John is a lot more accustomed to relationships
and sex and I’m assuming because it’s my god given right to assume tops when he’s with all those girls.
followed by this
OMG, I don’t even know what I’m writing anymore.
John’s definitely the one that could beat Sherlock in a fight (unless he’s really rusty from armyness), and the more experienced of them, but then Sherlock is the more demanding one, and then there’s the bonus that he’s taller. So…. what I’m saying is….
The height difference is fun because it makes me wonder who’s the top.
That’s why I wrote this 10 page essay.
I’ve seen both top!John and top!Sherlock, and both seem plausible to me. If John was as tall or taller than Sherlock, my favor would probably shift in John’s direction. His shortness keeps me guessing what happens under the sheets guys. And it makes their relationship seem more complex, even though in reality it’s just height… which doesn’t really change relationship dynamics (I think). But when we have probably a year or more for series 3, giving my mind something to do is very necessary.
OMG, so I glanced at this question before I went to school and thought you said if Martin was taller than Benedict, and so I thought of this whole analysis of height differences in Sherlock and how that played into the dynamics of the characters. And then I see you’re just talking about midgetizing Sherlock. (seriously, you should also ask me that question so I can show my wonderful essay >:D)
IDK. I think it has potential. The one way to find out, though, is to do… an experiment. Let’s see what it looks like when Benedict is shortifized.

I think the results speak for themselves.
Shipping Challenge Pick 3 of your OTPs, without looking at the questions.
2. April x Andy
(just a warning, pics here aren’t mine unless I directly state so)
1. What made you ship 3? (Borra)
Well, there’s sort of two ways I can answer this question. I “started” shipping them in a very (very) loose “Oh they’re so cute together” when I saw this fanart, before I even saw the first episode:
The drawing is just so amazing that I guess it planted the seed of Borra inside of me. As you can see, it is still my background to my computer. BORRA 4 LYF BITCHES.
But what really made me ship Borra was
this scene! Bolin was just so adorable in his apology, and showed so much care to Korra when no one else really did. Quickly afterwards I wrote my first fan-fiction ever to deal with the feels, and well the rest is history.
2. Is 2 canon? (April x Andy)
Yes! And they’re married!
Well at least I think April and Andy are… I haven’t watched season 4 yet, so maybe there relationship went to shit during that season… But anyway, they are. And I love it.
3. What is your favorite moment between 1? (Johnlock)
Just one? Really? Well okay, I’m going to cheap again since the wording is ambiguous.
Damn it! I missed the Crime day for Borra week. Well anyway, imagine I posted this yesterday. This was inspired by fanart by the same name. This might make you sad, so be warned.

Sya’s head rested on Bolin’s shoulder as she whimpered in grief. Bolin softly stroked her head with one hand, and hugged her tightly to him with another. The funeral proceedings were finally over, the crowd has finished offering their condolences and he’d finally been able to turn his attention to the girl who had just lost her mother at only 7. She was their- his - only child, and he and Korra had always raised her together. Even with her duties as Avatar, and even with him working as head of the metal bender cops, they had always found time to raise their perfect waterbender. Korra was the tougher, serious mother and Bolin the goofy, careful father. He wasn’t sure how he was going to do it alone now. He had to be both of them, and he wasn’t sure if he could be.
"Why did they have to kill her?" Sya asked abruptly. Her blue eyes that were so much like Korra’s stared desperately at Bolin for answers.
